Local Eighth Grader Has the Microphone at KID Museum’s FutureFest

On Sunday, Sept. 15, the KID Museum will once again welcome families to Silver Spring, Md. for FutureFest, one of the DC region’s largest, free family festivals to empower kids to become the creative problem-solvers of tomorrow. This year, attendees will be greeted by a new face, FutureFest’s kid reporter, Pavani.

An eighth grader at Cabin John Middle School in Montgomery County, Md., Pavani has been attending STEM programs at the KID Museum for the past four years, and she is excited to share all that FutureFest has to offer.

“I am looking forward to the unique, interactive activities at FutureFest,” said Pavani, in preparation for the festival. “There will be a variety of hands-on experiences where you can take things apart and find out how they work, as well as opportunities to explore other cultures.”

FutureFest, presented by KID Museum in partnership with Montgomery County and Fund for Montgomery, merges two beloved festivals, KIDfest and the World of Montgomery Festival. Through support from sponsors like Pepco, this free community event furthers a shared mission to empower the next generation of creative and compassionate change-makers through the power of innovation.

We’re pleased to host exhibits in KID City, where kids and families will build a city of the future—from the ground up—for a one-of-a-kind, interactive experience. Visitors will be able to experiment with different tools and materials, build new skills from coding to design engineering, and help a city rise through this unique communal project.

“I’m really excited to see the exhibits in KID City,” Pavani said. “It will be great to see all the innovative ways technologies like electric vehicles can impact our future. The interactive exhibits will allow me to see how what I am learning in school can be applied to our community.”

FutureFest is a free event that takes place Sunday, September 15, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Veterans Plaza at the Silver Spring Civic Center — One Veterans Place, Silver Spring Md. 20910. Learn more here.

KID Museum serves 55,000 annually in its current site at Davis Library through school group visits, after school programs, weekend workshops, and more. It is a first step toward the museum’s vision of a larger, permanent home focused on empowering the next generation to invent the future with creativity and compassion.
