Delmarva Power Shows the Power of Women This March

This Women’s History Month, Delmarva Power employees were presented with an array of events and opportunities that were insightful, informative, and powerful for all who attended. Highlights included the Women United event with the United Way of Delaware, the Girl Scouts of Chesapeake Bay’s 20th Women of Distinction gala, and a HeForShe campaign event.

“It’s a powerful reminder of how entrenched diversity is in our culture here at Delmarva Power,” said Enid Wallace-Simms, senior external affairs specialist at Delmarva Power. “This month’s events brought people together and truly showed the power of women.”

Women United Luncheon

In partnership with the United Way of Delaware, more than 100 women from Delmarva Power and the United Way networked at the Delmarva Power Conference Center and heard from special guest speaker Dr. Devona Goeins-Williams, chair of the board for Delaware State University. The theme of the event was “Be Brave, Be Bold, Be Fearless.” Attendees learned how employee networks empower women and girls to advance themselves and their work in the community.

Girl Scouts of Chesapeake Bay’s 20th Women of Distinction Gala

As a sponsor of the Girl Scouts for nearly 40 years, Delmarva Power served as the honorary presenter for the organization’s first ever Girl of Distinction Award, which awards a Girl Scout preparing to attend college with a $2,000 scholarship. The Women of Distinction event honors women throughout the Delmarva Peninsula whose leadership and accomplishments make the world a better place and present themselves as a role model for Girl Scouts.

HeForShe

To conclude Women’s History Month, our employees participated in a training and engagement seminar to learn more about our partnership with the HeForShe campaign. He For She LogoHeForShe is a solidarity campaign for the advancement of gender equality that was developed by the United Nations. Its goal is to achieve equality by encouraging all genders to partake as agents of change and take action against negative stereotypes and behaviors. One of the organization’s most active goals is engaging with men and boys to be a part of the movement and join with women as their partner in the fight for gender equality. At this event, employees pledged their commitment toward the movement and learned how they can educate others to join in the movement.

This month’s events are just a small portion of the many activities that take place at Delmarva Power to push forward the strength we find as an organization in diversity. Stay tuned for similar recaps throughout the year and learn how we create a work environment that is welcoming and accommodating for everyone.
